Self Portrait Friday – Week IV

Today I was asking for ideas related to this week's SelfPortraitFriday, but the traffic was incredibly low on the subject and I got nothing back. After getting home from work the idea of not doing today's portrait lingered until late in the evening (European time), but in the end here it is:

Self Portrait Friday - Week 4

It represents myself of course, as the glass wearing guy that I am and as you can see it also contains another thing representative for myself, the reflection of the monitor on my glasses. I spend way too much time in front of the monitor.

Equipment used:

  • Canon EOS 1000D
  • Canon 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 kit lens
  • UV Filter on the lens
  • TFT Monitor as main light source from front left (left of the glasses)
  • TV as second light source masked by a tall leather chair from behind so only a little bit of light got on teh glasses through reflection (needed more tries due to commercials on TV and bad single hand camera holding shake)
  • Processed with Digital Photo Professional and Gimp.

If you find it a bit interesting please share it and leave a comment. Thanks.

Photoplay – The International Exhibition

As I read Photocritic.org and am a participant as of late in the #selfportraitfriday Internet meme 'to be', I found another thing to play with (aka participate into), a thing that yes, correct, has to do with photography.

The thing I am writing about is called "The International Exhibition" and to participate you just have to find a photograph that you like so much that you would put it on your wall at home (actually it may be any wall, we don't have any way to know), find a printing service that could print this thing out for you in a high quality manner and than take a photo of it.

You took a photo of it already? Ok, now comes the last step of this game, past time activity, whatever it is, Upload the photo of your printed photo on your wall on Flickr, hopefully that is the place where you normally upload them. Add this tag to it: "TheInternationalExhibition". Finito!

On the right is my original on Flickr:
Unfortunately at this hour there was no faster way to get it printed than using my desk printer and gettign it on a piece of A4 paper. Definitely not the best solution but the quickest and the cheapest solution that was available.

Once printed I had to find a place to put it and take a photo of the "masterpiece". I had an idea rather quickly, I used my TFT monitor as a picture frame and as a back light. What was bad about it was that the quality of the print was more visible with the back light but I did use a little bit of flash to somehow compensate. Not the best photographic experiment in history and not the best I made but a short and fun one, perfect for a little evening camera play.

Here is the result, with which I am not happy as it does not show the story, it is missing:
